The tea house food was much better than expected — dal bhat, garlic soup, apple pies in Namche. What I wasn't ready for was how culturally moving the whole experience would be. The Tengboche Monastery, the memorial at Thukla, the prayer flags at Base Camp. A deeply beautiful journey.

I've walked the Camino and hiked in Patagonia and this beats everything. The Himalayas have a scale that is simply incomprehensible until you're inside them.
