The photos online don't do it justice. The mountains look big in photos — in person they are incomprehensibly enormous. You feel genuinely small among them but in the best possible way. Day 5 to Tengboche with Ama Dablam right there — I literally gasped. Guide Tenzing was patient and knowledgeable, the tea house owners warm and welcoming. Then Kala Patthar at 4am in every layer I owned. Perfect.

I'm a PE teacher and I still found this trek genuinely challenging. Anyone who says it's easy is not being honest. But challenging and rewarding are the same thing at 5,555m. The guide team was professional and warm, the itinerary was thoughtfully paced, and the tea house garlic soup became a nightly ritual for our whole group.
