On the trail, guide Nima could identify every peak visible from every viewpoint, explain the geology of the glaciers, and share Sherpa folklore by the fire every evening. The Khumbu region is more beautiful than any photograph suggests. Everest from Kala Patthar at sunrise is the most beautiful thing I will ever see in my life. 5 stars without hesitation.

I've walked the Camino and hiked in Patagonia and this beats everything. The Himalayas have a scale that is simply incomprehensible until you're inside them. The tea house food was much better than expected — dal bhat, garlic soup, apple pies in Namche. What I wasn't ready for was how culturally moving the whole experience would be. The Tengboche Monastery, the memorial at Thukla, the prayer flags at Base Camp. A deeply beautiful journey.
