I've run 6 marathons and I still found Day 9 to Everest Base Camp the most physically demanding single day of my life. The altitude adds a multiplier to every step that no amount of sea-level fitness can fully prepare you for. But the guide's pacing strategy was perfect — we arrived at Base Camp exhausted but triumphant, not broken. Day 10 at Kala Patthar was almost meditative in the still cold dawn light.

As someone who lives above the Arctic Circle, I thought I knew cold. Gorak Shep at 5,164m in November at 4am is a different category of cold entirely. Worth it. Indescribably worth it. The sunrise from Kala Patthar with Everest above us — orange and gold and impossible — was the most beautiful thing I have witnessed in 41 years of life in some of the world's most beautiful landscapes.

From the southern end of the world to the roof of the world — worth every flight hour. The EBC trek was on my bucket list since I was a teenager. The mountain scale is completely different from the Andes. The culture is different. The silence above 5,000m is different. Everything is different. Guide Pasang was incredible company for 14 days. Nobody ever mentions the food enough in these reviews. The dal bhat in the tea houses is genuinely delicious and the unlimited refills policy is one of the best things that exists at any altitude. The apple pies in Namche bakeries should be internationally famous. The garlic soup at Lobuche saved my soul on a cold evening when everything felt hard. And the farewell dinner in Kathmandu on Day 13 was perfect.

Excellent organization and an outstanding guide. Lakpa had 18 years of experience and it showed in every single decision on the trail. He knew which tea house had the best food, which viewpoints to pause at for photos, and when to slow down before any of us asked. The daily oxygen checks gave huge peace of mind. Reached Base Camp and Kala Patthar with zero serious altitude problems.

But the guides are there for every difficult step and the payoff is quite literally the greatest view on Earth. I've already convinced three friends to book this trek since getting home.
